Face Symmetry Test: best photos and fixes.

The photo to use

Look straight into the camera with a neutral expression, in even light, with your hair away from your face. A head turned even slightly to one side makes one half wider in the photo, which shows up as asymmetry that isn't really there.

Light matters

Light from one side makes one half of the face brighter. The mirrored faces will then look very different even if your features are symmetric. Face a window or stand in shade for the fairest comparison.

How the faces are built

The face's midline is found from points down the forehead, nose and chin, and the photo is turned so it's upright. Each half is then mirrored onto the other side, giving a face made of two left halves and one of two right halves.

About the score

The score compares where facial landmarks sit on each side after mirroring, relative to face width. It is a playful reading of this one photo: angle, expression and lens distortion change it. Nobody's face is perfectly symmetric, and small asymmetry is completely normal.

Better side for photos

Many people prefer one of the two mirrored faces. If you do, try turning that side slightly toward the camera in your next photos.

Face Symmetry Test FAQ.

Is the score scientific?

No. It is a playful reading of landmark distances on one photo and changes with angle, light and expression.

Why do my two faces look so different?

Side light, a slight head turn or a crooked smile makes halves differ. Try a front-facing photo in even light.

Does it work on group photos?

It analyzes one face, the one it detects most clearly. Crop to one person for the best result.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The face model is downloaded to your browser once and runs there; your photo never leaves your device. Close the tab and it is gone.

Is it free?

Yes. Quick tools are free, need no sign-in and use no credits; your images stay in your browser. The AI tools linked below need an account.
